First approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1982 for treatment of severe acne, Accutane—active ingredient isotretinoin—has dozens of dangerous side effects. Pulled from the market by Accutane’s maker, Hoffman-LaRoche, Inc. in 2009, there are many generic drugs containing isotretinoin that are still available to patients today. The Dangers of Accutane

  • Serious brain problems (including seizures and stroke);
  • Skin problems;

  • Bone and muscle problems;
  • Hearing and vision problems;
  • Increased blood lipids;
  • Diabetes;
  • Decreased red and white blood cell count; and
  • Serious allergic reaction.
Other generic drugs that contain isotretinoin include Amnesteem, Claravis, and Sotret.  

Who Is Liable for Harm Caused by Accutane?

In fact, Hoffman-LaRoche, Inc. has already been ordered to pay more than $50 million to Accutane victims.
