Napoli Shkolnik PLLC is proud to announce that Partner Shayna E. Sacks was named to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the In Re: Proton-Pump Inhibitor Products Liability Litigation (MDL 2789) by United Stated District Judge Claire C. Cecchi of the District of New Jersey.
Ms. Sacks brings her substantial mass tort legal acumen and experience to the diverse group of attorneys that were selected by the Hon. Cecchi. In her role, she will oversee all Currently pending individual personal injury and wrongful death cases; Napoli Shkolnik PLLC alone has over 1,000 cases.
Prescription proton pump inhibitors (PPI’s) are used for controlling acid production in the stomach, which can cause heartburn and/or acid reflux. Unfortunately, many patients have experienced life-threatening side effects after taking these medications such as Prilosec, Nexium and/or Prevacid. Some individuals have to take a prescription every day to control the acid production in their stomach even though there might be other remedies available to reduce acid reflux issues naturally.
The lawsuit alleges that as a result of ingesting defective PPI’s, individuals have suffered and continue to suffer from kidney injuries including, acute interstitial nephritis, cornice kidney disease, renal failure and end stage renal disease. Instead of making them better, individuals are in worse shape on the medication.
As a member of the steering committee, Ms. Sacks will continue to investigate and develop the claims in this case by overseeing the coordination, preparation, and presentation of the necessary legal documentation. A team of pharmaceutical litigation attorneys at Napoli Shkolnik PLLC, including Partners Hunter J. Shkolnik and Christopher R. LoPalo, and Associate Brett S. Bustamante will provide valuable assistance to Ms. Sacks.
“I am proud to be part of such a knowledgeable and talented group of attorneys who are ready to fight for the rights of those affected by this product,” says Ms. Sacks. “We are all committed to providing superior legal representation and together we will work towards the best resolution for our clients.”
Hunter J. Shkolnik added, “The individuals affected have suffered long enough and deserve to be heard. We are happy to be their voice in this fight.”
We certainly encourage individuals and/or their loved ones to contact Napoli Shkolnik if they have experienced severe side effects from taking a proton pump inhibitor medication. The consultation is free and there is no obligation or upfront fees. We will review your legal options with you and we only collect a fee if we win your case.
