Twenty-five years after the September 11 attacks, 170,000 pages of newly released government records provide new insight into what officials knew about the air quality in and around Ground Zero. For Napoli Shkolnik, the revelations are closely connected to the firm’s longstanding work on behalf of the 9/11 community.
Napoli Shkolnik Advocates for the 9/11 Community
The newly released records raise additional questions about what officials knew about long-term exposure. After the September 11 attacks, our firm’s late Founding Partner, Paul J. Napoli, was appointed Co-Plaintiffs’ Liaison Counsel in the World Trade Center Disaster Litigation. He represented more than 11,000 first responders and rescue and recovery workers, and the litigation ultimately resulted in more than $800 million in settlements for injured workers. Paul also played a significant role in advocating for legislation to support 9/11 survivors, including the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010.
For the thousands of first responders, recovery workers, and Lower Manhattan residents our firm has represented, these records echo what they have said for years. Many were told the air was safe, returned to work and to their homes, and later developed serious illnesses.
Napoli Shkolnik continues to stand with the 9/11 community today, helping survivors and their families pursue compensation through the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, which Congress permanently funded in 2019. As more of these records become public, we remain committed to holding officials accountable and making sure those who were harmed receive the support they were promised.
Nearly three decades after the attacks, many first responders and nearby residents are facing long-term health effects caused by toxic exposure and may be eligible for compensation. Contact Napoli Shkolnik today.
