As you may know a serious health hazard has been detected in the public drinking water in Hyannis, Hyannisport, and West Hyannisport. Our law firm, Napoli Shkolnik PLLC, together with local counsel, Brian Cunha & Associates are investigating potential claims by residents who may have been exposed to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and/or perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS).
This is likely the result from years of use of Foam (“AFFF”), which is a known source of PFOA and PFOS, used by firefighters as part of their training at the Barnstable County Fire Training and Rescue Academy and the Barnstable Municipal Airport.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has identified these two sites as likely sources of PFOA and PFOS contamination. These chemicals have been shown to cause personal injury and property damage if your water (or air) is affected. You may have property damage or potential personal injury claims.
This is alarming, since PFOA and PFOS have been linked to serious diseases and cancers, including testicular cancer, kidney cancer, thyroid disease, high cholesterol, ulcerative colitis, pregnancy-induced hypertension, developmental effects for fetuses, liver tissue damage and immune system impairments.
