A St. Louis man acting as next friend of several minor plaintiffs is seeking damages from an international natural resource company that operated in a region of Peru. According to the complaint, the minor plaintiffs were exposed to lead and other toxic substances from the defendants' ownership, disposal and release of  substances in the La Oroya region of Peru. Lead is a neurotoxin that interrupts normal brain development and has been linked to behavioral problems in children. Adults can tolerate higher levels of lead than children but can still suffer from health problems. The suit states the minor plaintiffs sustained physical and psychological injuries, learning disabilities, anemia, stunted growth and other damages as a result of the exposure.
