Partner Chris Schnieders Quoted by Inside PFAS Policy

A federal district court in Texas is shelving for now its consideration of a pivotal lawsuit brought by farmers seeking to hold a national biosolids company liable under tort law for PFAS contamination, administratively closing the case in an act that one source says allows the court to skirt penalties for failing to rule in a timely manner.

Synagro is widely seen as landmark litigation, with farmers seeking redress from a fertilizer company for alleged harms due to the land application of biosolids containing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Though it is unclear when or how the court will rule on the pending motions in Synagro, Christopher Schnieders, a partner at law firm Napoli Shkolnik who represents the Texas farmers in the litigation, told Inside PFAS Policy, “As we await the Court’s ruling on the motion to dismiss, our focus remains firmly on holding Synagro accountable.”

“The company’s negligence allowed toxic PFAS chemicals in biosolids to poison family farmlands -- killing livestock, threatening human health, and rendering the property on which they live and work worthless. These farmers deserve justice, and we are committed to advocating on their behalf.”
