Recent studies on the agricultural use of Roundup have revealed a significant increase in the amount of this herbicide used on farmers’ crops in the past two decades. It was found that this was a result of the recent discovery of the “Roundup Ready” crop that is resistant to the harmful chemical Glyphosate - the active ingredient in Roundup. Roundup ready crops make the use of this harmful herbicide more convenient and more cost efficient as the genetically engineered seeds are not affected by the mass spraying of Monsanto’s widely used weed killer. As a result, increased exposure - specifically by agricultural workers, farmers and green house employees – has led the IARC to speculate the possible carcinogenic traits of Glyphosate, particularly leading to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
