The counties sued the drug companies in various lawsuits that were consolidated in Suffolk County Supreme Court, where lawyer Paul Napoli is representing multiple counties, including Westchester and Putnam. "People are dying daily," he told The Journal News/lohud today. "We've tried to impress upon the judge, who takes his job seriously in this situation, the sooner we have resolution at trial, the sooner we can hopefully stem the tide of people dying and get the money necessary to fight people's addiction." Napoli said he hopes the case will go to trial next spring. He said just about every New York county has joined this legal fight, which has targeted companies that manufactured and distributed opioids.
