A New York appeals court has denied a bid from several pharmaceutical companies to delay the March 20 trial date for a suit by the state attorney general and two counties accusing the companies of contributing to the national opioid crisis. Moving the trial now, Shkolnik said, would be a “monumental disaster,” adding that the appellate court shot down a “last-ditch effort” to delay the trial. “These defendants will all have to meet their Judgment Day before a jury in Suffolk County, which was devastated by the opioid crisis,” he said. Salvatore Badala of Napoli Shkolnik PLLC, also representing Nassau County, added that he wasn’t surprised by the move. “The court has shown that they can handle this case and it can move forward,” he said. “The plaintiffs are definitely ready to move forward, and the County of Nassau is looking forward to the trial starting on March 20.”
