Toxic chemicals have contaminated drinking water for 80,000 people south of Colorado Springs, one of 63 areas nationwide where chemicals, widely used to fight petroleum fires, have been measured at very high levels that the EPA deems unsafe.
Military airfields are suspected by health investigators as a point where the chemicals seeped into the Fountain Creek watershed north of Widefield, Fountain, and Security. More than sixty other locations nationwide, including parts of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, are experiencing similar problems.
In order to stand up for the victims in El Paso County, Colorado, the attorneys at Napoli Shkolnik PLCC have joined forces with the McDivitt Law Firm to file a class action suit against the entities responsible for this environmental poisoning. This action is not only designed to collect money for victims, but also to put an end to the water contamination issues around Colorado Springs and bring peace of mind to all past, current, and future residents.
Government installations have a legal duty to adhere to the standards set by other government agencies, and that includes PFOA levels in the surrounding environment. Unfortunately, instead of rewarding servicemembers for all their hard work and commitment, the government essentially ignored EPA standards and determined that fighting fires was more important than ensuring that innocent citizens, and their children, were not poisoned.
If the defendant breached its legal duty by releasing high levels of PFOA into the surrounding environment, and that breach caused cancer or some other physical injury, then the defendant is liable for damages.
Most civil cases, including class-action lawsuits, settle out of court and on victim-friendly terms.
PFOA contamination has been linked to numerous chronic illnesses that are often fatal. For a free consultation with an aggressive personal injury attorney in New York, contact Napoli Shkolnik PLLC. We do not charge upfront legal fees in negligence cases.
