How Were the Earplugs Supposed to Work?

The Combat Arms Earplugs are dual ended with the intention of offering the wearer two seperate levels of protection. One end goes into the ear canal, blocking the loud noises of explosions, guns, airplanes, helicopters, or bombs. The other end sits outside of the ear canal, also blocking lesser dB noise from entering the ear canal.

The problem with the earplugs is that the portion made to fit inside the ear canal was too short. After being in the ear, the earplug could loosen and loud noises would enter the ear, rendering the earplug less effective, or not at all.

Being subjected to these noises repeatedly can result in hearing loss and tinnitus. These conditions are currently affecting a large number of veterans.

Now, those same veterans can claim compensation for their injuries.
