Hundreds of attorneys and several consumer and legal advocacy organizations on Friday joined dozens of putative class members\u00a0in the Roundup product liability case\u00a0in urging a California federal judge not to approve a proposed $2 billion deal to settle claims that\u00a0the\u00a0weedkiller causes cancer, saying the “anemic” settlement benefits Monsanto and its parent company Bayer AG more than sick plaintiffs.<\/p>\n
“This ‘revised’ deal is nothing but a back room deal to protect Monsanto at the expense of future cancer victims,” Hunter Shkolnik of Napoli Shkolnik, one of the attorney who filed an opposition memo, told Law360 on Friday. “We represent the National Black Farmers Association and its members, and this deal provides nothing for them and lots of legal fees for class counsel.”<\/p>\n
