Chris erwarb seinen Doktortitel in Rechtswissenschaften an der St. John's University School of Law, wo er war Gewinner/Bester Fürsprecher des Zivilgerichtswettbewerbs 1992. Nach seinem Abschluss an der St. John's arbeitete Chris als stellvertretender Bezirksstaatsanwalt in Queens County, New York, wo er Angeklagte vor Gericht stellte, die von Diebstahl bis Mord reichten.
Danach arbeitete Chris als Staff Counsel für die Allstate Insurance Company, wo er Kfz- und Prämissenfälle vor Gericht verteidigte. Aufgrund seiner erfolgreichen Gerichtsurteile wurde ihm 1997 der Allstate verliehen Nationaler Einzeldienstpreis.
